Hello & Welcome to the 2019-2020 Westlake High School Boys Lacrosse Program

AUTUMN EDITION

7th period lacrosse PE/Boys Lacrosse - meet Coach Swander tomorrow (8/21) at the stadium steps for a team meeting. He will be providing dismissal forms, so players may leave campus after 6th period. Thursday, 8/22 meet Coach Swander outside the Administration building at 2pm where you can turn in your registration (see attached) for the Lacrosse program, and your dismissal form (see attached) in order to get your ID card punched. There will be no Friday PE/practice this week.

This fall we are thrilled to offer an optional box lacrosse program, a new 8 team LA Elite Box league, in addition to field practice and strength & conditioning. Please register this week for the program. The registration form and associated links are attached.

Field practices are mandatory for 7th period lacrosse PE credit, attendance will be taken. You can choose to sign-up for a regular 7th period PE class, if you do not wish to participate in the fall program and donation.

Here is how our schedule breaks down, beginning on August 26.

Mondays/Wednesdays - $295.

Field Practices 8/26-10/30 - 2:30-4:30pm

Field Map/Location: Conejo Creek South - Field 10.

Monday-Friday - included in fees

Strength & Conditioning with Zmac: 6:00-7:30pm

Location:  WHS Weight Room

Tuesdays/Thursdays - $350.

Box Lacrosse practices 8/27-10/17

2:30-4pm - Varsity

4-5:30pm - Junior Varsity

Location: VC Arena in Camarillo

Saturdays  - included in fees

Varsity Games 9/7-10/12, Playoffs 10/19

between 8am-12pm (1or 2 games for the season may be held on a weeknight W/Th 5-7pm)

Location: Sierra Canyon Box Rink

Sundays - included in fees

JV Games 9/8-10/13, Playoffs 10/20

between 8am-12pm  (1or 2 games for the season may be held on a weeknight W/Th 5-7pm)

Location: Sierra Canyon Box Rink

Notes:

In addition to regular pads in box lacrosse, arm guards and kidney pad are needed. Attacker arm pads are acceptable! 

We have an option for a group rate on kidney pads, you can opt in on the registration form.

Turf shoes or running shoes are used for box lacrosse practices.

Registration with US Box Lacrosse is also necessary, please see the link on the registration page attached.

Communication Policy: 2018-2019

When a player or parent has questions or concerns regarding the program or player’s individual role and playing time on the team, use the following communications process. This process provides an effective and efficient progression, focused on solving any problem or communication breakdowns that may develop throughout the season.

 

  •  

COURSE OF ACTION

 

 

  1. The concerned player should approach his immediate Head Coach to schedule a time to discuss his questions or concerns. If the player does not feel comfortable and satisfied with the outcome of this meeting, he should move forward to Step 2.

 

  1. The concerned player should request a meeting involving himself, his immediate Head Coach and the Varsity Head Coach (if applicable), If the player does not feel comfortable and satisfied with the outcome of this meeting, he should move forward to Step 3.

 

  1. A meeting involving the player, the necessary Westlake HS Lacrosse coaches and parent(s)/guardian(s) should be requested via e-mail. This e-mail should include a brief explanation of the player/parent concerns. If this meeting does not resolve the situation, the player and his parents should then move forward to Step 4.

 

  1. A meeting should be requested involving the player, appropriate Westlake HS Lacrosse coaches, parent(s)/guardian(s), and the Athletic Director. If all the parties involved are still not comfortable with the outcome of this meeting, additional alternatives should be discussed to resolve this matter.

 

 

KEY DISCUSSION POINTS

 

 

  1. All discussion should focus on questions or concerns regarding the individual

 

  1. The performance and ability of other players will not be a subject of discussion. This is contrary to our team values of mutual respect and support.

 

  1. Before leaving any meeting, be sure to clarify and summarize your thoughts and feelings. This will ensure that everyone involved has a clear understanding of the meeting’s outcome.
